KESSLER NEIGHBORHOOD "EXTRA" POLICE PATROL PROGRAM IS UNDERWAY!
A major all-neighborhood meeting took place on the evening of July 17, 2007, to discuss the newly proposed additional patroling of our neighborhood by off-duty officers of the Dallas Police Department. DPD Sergeant Means spoke to the large turnout about crime in the area and how such additional patroling can help reduce neighborhood crime by adding highly visible DPD squad cars and patrol officers to our streets on a daily basis. Effective November 1, 2007, the program is underway for the Kessler Park neighborhood. Please consider joining this effort. How? Read on.
Additional patrols come at a cost. Effectively we are hiring one or more off-duty DPD officers, and a squad car, at "overtime" rates. The Crime Watch Committee is asking each household in Kessler Park to contribute $182.50 to cover the first 6 months of the program (that's effectively one dollar per day from November 1, 2007 through May 1, 2008, and going forward from there in six-month increments). Thus far, we have received participations (at $182.50 each) from 225 Kessler households to cover 32 hours per week of extra police patrols in Kessler Park. The more money we collect, the more hours per month the patrols will be present and cruising our streets during established 4-hour segments of the day.
You are asked to go ahead now and make your $182.50 contribution if you have not already done so. This money is not comingled with the general treasury of KNU. The North Oak Cliff United Police Patrol ("NOCUPP") is a separate nonprofit corporation, but KNU endorses, and urges your support of, NOCUPP's efforts. You may send your check (payable to North Oak Cliff United Police Patrol, with notation of "patrol fund") to the following post office box:
NOCUPP
PO Box 226216
Dallas, Texas 75222-6216
You can also email the NOCUPP organization at: nocpatrol@gmail.com
Or visit their website: www.northoakcliffpatrol.org
Be sure your Kessler Park street address appears somewhere on your check, and also provide NOCUPP with your phone number(s) and email address, so communications to you will be more efficient. Once you have paid, you will be given the cell phone number for you to use to communicate directly with the squad car and officer on duty. Only participants will have that number. Also, the on-duty partrol will be given your street address, so they will know you are a participant.
